Dia de los Muertos, a city-wide honoring of personal and community ancestors, will be marked at the Southwest School of Art with its annual La Ofrenda altar. This year’s La Ofrenda lead artist, Rex Hausmann, brings his own iconic style to the altar, with a tribute to his Italian, Mexican and German family. For a start, Hausmann crocheted a series of pendant flags (like the plastic ones he remembers hanging around his grandfather Rodrigo’s automobile business) to adorn La Ofrenda, which will include some of his distinctive paintings as well.
