San Antonio.- When you think about breast cancer awareness you probably think about October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
“The Baptist Breast Centers in San Antonio want to make breast cancer awareness a yearlong idea, and want to start by offering free mammograms,” Dr. Kahlenberg, executive director of the Baptist Breast Center said.
For those women who for whatever reason don’t get their yearly mammograms, this is the opportunity to be screened at no cost.
Free mammograms will be taking place on Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 8 a.m.- noon at the following Baptist Breast Center locations:
• Westover - 3903 Wiseman Blvd., Suite 321
• Medical Center - 7888 Fredericksburg Rd.
• North Central Baptist Hospital -502 Madison Oak, Suite 450
You must call (210) 297-7005 beforehand to see if you meet the criteria. That criteria includes being a patient from age 40-55, having had prior breast surgery, being a high-risk patient, if you have a history of fibrocystic change or if you have dense breast tissue.
The Baptist Breast Center is a nationally recognized NAPBC accredited breast program. Not only are there doctors, but also genetic counselors; and certified patient navigators.
A key to treating breast cancer is not only early detection, but also receiving the correct information regarding this type of cancer.
“We want San Antonio women to know more about breast cancer and getting educated about breast cancer is a great start,” stated Kahlenberg.
