"SAFILM-The San Antonio Film Festival" starts Monday, June 18, with a wonderful free screening of a hilarious comedy called “French Immersion” at The Pearl Brewery.
Plan to be there early – all the fun starts at about 8 p.m., and Adam Rocha says this year, the San Antonio Film Festival will kick-off with a rockin’ solo of the national anthem by a very special guest, WOAI’s Joe “Pags” Pagliarulo, who will be there live (with his sax) to start the festival off right.
BONUS! The first 400 guests to arrive at the Pearl Brewery Monday night will also receive limited edition SAFILM hand fans. Other free surprises will be happening Monday night, too.
The second FREE community screening will be at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19 at the Instituto Cultural de Mexico in HemisFair Park. SAFILM will be celebrating Mexican cinema by presenting a group of the best new marvelous Mexican films
WIN A SEVEN-DAY BADGE TO ATTEND THE FILM FESTIVAL FREE!
Film aficionados who use Facebook can participate in a special contest to win free entry to the rest of the film festival.
“SHARE” SAFILM on Facebook until this Sunday at midnight for a chance to win TWO seven-day badges for the rest of the Film Festival (a great thing since each badge costs $150!) There is a catch - you have to be present when Rocha announces the winners at the Pearl on opening night to claim your badges.
ENJOY A GREAT LINE-UP OF FEATURE FILMS AND SHORTS
SAFILM put together a fantastic line-up of great films (shorts and feature length films) -- we happen to know because Covo & Ayotte were jurists for this year’s film festival. All the great flicks will be screened 12:30pm – 11 p.m. from June 20 to 24 at the Santikos Bijou, the Santikos Palladium and at the Santikos Rialto.
Wednesday night, movie star Jesse Borrego (yes OUR Jesse Borrego) will walk the Red Carpet at the Palladium to screen another great film, “Supporting Characters,” that’s a funny take on today’s personal relationships. Borrego will do a brief Q&A about his career and upcoming projects right before the film starts at 7 p.m. (See La Prensa Wednesday for an exclusive indepth profile and interview with Borrego.)
Some of the films to be screened will bring awareness to important issues society is facing today (try to catch “Code of the West”), others are terrific comedies, like “A Schizophrenic Love Story” which was made by a San Antonio native. The screenplay for that film already won top awards.
And if you think shorts are usually not that great – please make an effort to see “Crescendo” one of the top movies of any length I have ever seen.
FREE CONFERENCE PANELS are an integral part of the San Antonio Film Festival - a rare chance to learn from film industry experts. Stay tuned for the full line-up and schedule of films or visit safilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/2.-best-SCHEDULE-features.pdf for the full schedule.
Visit SAFILM.com for more information or to buy your Seven-Day Badge ($150). Day passes are on sale at each theater every day of the festival.
