Councilman David Medina shows support for Senior Softball Program

15 de marzo de 2010

La Prensa de San Antonio.- Councilman David Medina paid a visit to Normoyle Park at 700 Culbertson Drive to observe the operations of the San Antonio Senior Softball League and to congratulate the Texas Tornados, winners of the Tournament of Champions, 60+ AA Division, held in Lakeland, Florida on February 14, 2010.

Games were halted and Mr. Medina spoke briefly to the crowd commending players for participating in the league and for staying fit by playing softball.

“Diabetes is on the rise, exercise and fitness is a method of preventing the onslaught of the disease,” Medina told the crowd.
“I remember playing baseball on these very fields,” recalled the councilman.

Medina also visited with spectators and spoke with the league’s Chairman of the Board, Bill Altman, concerning recommendations for upgrades and working with city officials to improve the facilities.

"I support the league and am ‘on board’ with the progress, I will do whatever it takes to promote better upkeep of the facilities,” said Medina.

Members of the SASSL expressed their excitement about working with Councilman Medina; they believe that along with his support the city of San Antonio Parks and Recreations Departments will assist in upgrading the fields so that the league can continue to expand.

The SASSL league ensures that all senior ball players can play with men/women in their own age groups.

This year alone SASSL opened up to 50+ ball players and will now run a league on Thursday nights. SASSL currently accommodates 50+, 60+, 65+, and 69+ leagues on Tuesdays, Thursday nights and Saturdays.

SASSL now hopes to include a women’s league in the near future.
