Two midnight feature programs, with five titles each, will continue the long-standing tradition for the Midnighters section of SXSW. This part of the program regulary uncovers cinematic treasures, hosts premieres and launches careers.
Midnighters is programmed by SXSW Senior Programmer & Conference Manager Jarod Neece.
In 2009, SXSW added the SXFantastic sidebar, a series of midnight films programmed by Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the U.S. Last year, the section introduced the world premieres of Gareth Edward's Monsters and the notorious work, A Serbian Film.
Thanks to SXSW, aficionados get to see some of the best cinematography and amazing, edgy films.
”Our midnight programs are the bloody, beating heart of SXSW,” SXSW Film Conference & Festival Producer Janet Pierson explained. “Since the beginning, midnight films have been an essential ingredient to what makes SXSW so exciting and fun, and this year's selections are no exception.”
Almost 30 percent more short films were submitted this year than in 2010. Just 150 short films, about 5 percent, made the cut to be screened during the twelve overall shorts programs.

SXSW Film features more than 80 sessions of panels and workshops in the Film Conference. and nine full days packed with film screenings.
