  Who is TED, anyway?

  Austin.- The 2012 SXSW Film, Interactive and Music Festival descended on Austin on March 9 and takes over the city until March 18. It all started with the SXSW Music Conference and Festival, which debuted in Austin in March 1987. The event now known as the SXSW Interactive Festival began in 1994 (at that point, it was called the SXSW Film and Multimedia Conference). By 1995, SXSW Film and Multimedia became separate events until four years later, when Multimedia morphed into Interactive in 1999. The latest tech additions, SXSW ScreenBurn, focused on video game technology, was added to the mix in 2006 followed by SXSW Accelerator in 2009. And this year, TED had its very own first SXSW session … a locally organized TEDx sponsored by htc.

  SXSW FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2012 AWARD WINNERS

  Austin.- Jury and Audience Award-winners of the 2012 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival were announced tonight at the Festival’s Awards Ceremony, presented by Veam and hosted by comedian and actor Doug Benson. The Awards took place at the Vimeo Theater in Austin, Texas. Feature Films receiving Jury Awards were selected from the Narrative Feature and Documentary Feature Competition categories. Films in these categories, as well as all feature categories, with the exception of Special Events, were also eligible for 2012 SXSW Film Festival Audience Awards. Only Narrative and Documentary Feature Audience Awards were announced tonight. Narrative Spotlight, Documentary Spotlight, Emerging Visions, Midnighters, 24 Beats Per Second, SXGlobal and Festival Favorites Audience Awards will be announced separately on Saturday, March 17, with the Headliner Audience Award to follow on Monday, March 19, 2012.   A couple of favorites from SXSW Film so far

  Austin.- You really can’t miss at SXSW Film – it’s O.K. to take a chance and pop into the nearest theater. Chances are you will not be disappointed. We managed to catch five or six flicks the first weekend of the festival – and you have all the way till Saturday to do the same. All the movies we saw were good – but two were absolute winners.

  Free food was special fare from TODAY

  Austin.- National television show "TODAY" was in Austin for the first few days of SXSW to keep the South Texas crowds – and the tumult of all the out-of-town visitors, well fed. And with the Munchie Mobile, TODAY had no trouble merging with the unique convergence of creativity, emerging technologies and the city's one-of-kind food culture. TODAY Food editor Vidya Rao explored Austin’s food scene while TODAY staff mixed it up with festival attendees from bright yellow interactive food trucks serving up breakfast and late night snacks.

  Jiff Selected as Finalist in SXSW Accelerator Competition
