Castellon, Spain, Sep 19 (EFE).- Spanish professional cyclist Victor Cabedo, a member of the Euskaltel-Euskadi team, died Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle while training.
Team manager Miguel Madariaga said he learned of the accident from another Euskaltel cyclist, 2008 Olympic champion Samuel Sanchez.
The incident took place shortly before 2:00 p.m. on the CV200 highway in the eastern province of Castellon.
Cabedo collided with a vehicle, ran off the road and plunged into a ravine, Castellon fire rescue said.
The 23-year-old Castellon native turned professional in 2011 with the Orbea Continental Team and joined the Euskaltel-Euskadi squad this year.
Cabedo won a stage for Orbea in the 2011 Tour of Asturias and competed for Euskaltel in this year's Giro d'Italia and Tour of Britain, though illness forced him to abandon the British event.
