Washington, Dec 1 (EFE).- A football player for the NFL Kansas City Chiefs committed suicide Saturday just minutes after shooting and killing his girlfriend, authorities said.
Police said the player killed the woman at her home in that Missouri city and then drove to a practice facility adjacent to Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs' home, where he shot himself in the head in front of a pair of team staff members.
Local media identified the Chiefs player as 25-year-old linebacker Jovan Belcher.
The team issued a statement confirming the incident and saying it was "cooperating with authorities in their investigation."
The Chiefs will host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in week 13 of the NFL season.
