International Sports Desk, Feb 1 (EFE).- Spanish driver Fernando Alonso said Friday at the presentation of the new Ferrari F138 that he won't take part in next week's first official test of the vehicle at Jerez de la Frontera.
"The first test is a general test in which one checks that all the components are put together properly," he told reporters at the Scuderia Ferrari team event in Maranello, Italy.
"Given the short amount of time available, we have decided that I will concentrate on the following tests: testing in Barcelona is more useful for measuring performance as well as being a circuit we race on," Alonso said.
He said he planned to remain in constant contact with the team drivers who will conduct the testing at Jerez, Felipe Massa and Pedro de la Rosa, and will review the data collected by the engineers.
"To be 100 percent fit from now 'til November will require combining training and resting," Alonso said.
Asked about his view of the F138, the driver said: "I can't say if it's a nice car or if it's good enough to make the difference, because tenths are not visible to the eye, you need to see them from the cockpit."
"Now, all we can do is concentrate on testing," Alonso said.
