Seoul, Feb 12 (EFE).- North Korea has "successfully" conducted its third nuclear test, the official KCNA news agency said Tuesday.
This nuclear test was "of a higher level" than the ones conducted in 2006 and 2009, North Korea said.
Scientists have managed to reduce the size and weight of the country's atomic bombs, allowing North Korea to move closer to its goal of having ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads, KCNA said.
The test is a "practical measure" in response to "hostility" from the United States, which Kim Jong-Un's regime recently labeled its "sworn enemy," North Korea said.
The test was carried according to established protocols and there was "no impact whatsoever on the region's environment," KCNA said.
North Korea warned last month that it would conduct a nuclear test in response to the U.N. Security Council sanctions imposed on Pyongyang over its recent missile test.
