Mexico City, Aug 13 (EFE).- Mexican singer Julieta Venegas is now the mother of a baby girl, sources close to the artist told Efe.
Venegas was admitted Wednesday night to a Mexico City hospital to give birth and is now the mother "of a precious baby girl," her label, Sony Music Mexico, said. "They're perfectly well and there were no complications," a company executive said.
Congratulations were not long in coming on Twitter, where the artist is one of the most popular Mexican women with more than 406,000 followers.
Thousands of tweets have greeted the birth with congratulations for the singer. "Congratulations Julieta on your baby, many blessings on you both," another Mexican singer, Aleks Syntek, wrote.
The February announcement of her pregnancy caused a stir in Mexico, especially because the divorced, 39-year-old artist chose not to reveal the name of the father.
During the presentation of the album "Otra Cosa" (Something Else) some months later, in which she explores femininity as a model of intuition and freedom, she reaffirmed that decision, which has generally been respected by the media.
After traveling to several countries, she gave her latest concert to date at the end of May in the Mexican capital's Metropolitan Theater, where the audience showered her with affection.
Venegas, who grew up in the northern border city of Tijuana, has become in recent years one of Mexico's most celebrated singer-songwriters throughout the Latin world.
The winner of four Latin Grammys, the artist's five solo studio discs and an MTV Unplugged have catapulted her to fame.
