Peru declares prison emergency to end irregularities

Lima, May 1 (EFE).- Authorities on Sunday declared a 60-day emergency at the Lurigancho prison, the largest in Peru with 9,000 inmates, to be able to restore order in the facility, the head of the INPE national prisons institute, Julio Magan, said after an operation to seize prohibited items from the prisoners.

Costa Rica closes off Turrialba volcano due to eruptions
