San Antonio.- The Fiesta San Antonio Commission announced the selected artist for their official 2013 Fiesta poster and unveiled the newest Fiesta poster design. The unveiling took place at the San Antonio Central Library Plaza tonight for members of The Fiesta Commission and invited guests.
Sixty local artists submitted designs to The Fiesta Commission, but only one could have the honor of being selected. In the end, Stuart A. Seal and his artwork, “Bridging The Traditions and Cultures of Fiesta,” was chosen.
Stuart A. Seal studied art under renowned painter Betty Gilow and at The Memphis Academy of Art while at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. Betty was a direct student of Joseph Albers, who is considered the father of color application and theory.
Stuart is a multiple generation San Antonio resident and is heavily involved in many community organizations including Fiesta. He’s been married to his wife Sharon for 26 years and has two daughters, Marianna and Virginia who are also both artists.
When asked about the poster, Stuart said, “The poster represents our heritage signified by the Rose Window of Mission San Jose which frames Fiesta; reflecting the spark, energy and icons of San Antonio, and its rich cultural diversity and history.
Confetti overflows from the Rose Window and becomes a river of revelry and staccato of mirth as it flows through Fiesta, bridging the cultures and traditions. The streaming banners represent the many components of Fiesta to overlay the events, honoring the Party with a Purpose – Fiesta.”
The official 2013 Fiesta Poster will go on sale to the public Saturday, November 3 at the grand opening of The Fiesta Store at 2611 Broadway.
