San Antonio.- If you like jazz music and want to help a good cause then come join The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) as they host “A Night of Jazz on Broadway” featuring Jackie King.
This will be quite a night for talent and the concert will take place on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Fine Arts Auditorium located on the UIW campus.
Jim Waller, coordinator of Music Industry Studies and director of the University of the Incarnate Word Jazz Ensemble said, “It’s the first time we’ve had an event like this on campus and we are very excited.”
The evening will be full of many accomplished jazz musicians with amazing resumes and plenty of talent.
There will be performances by:
• Guitarist Jackie King
• UIW Jazz Ensemble
• John Magaldi’s Prime Time Jazz Orchestra
• Drummer Butch Miles
• Vocalist John Panzarella
• UIW Jazz Ensemble Director - Jim Waller
If you’ve ever wanted to attend a jazz workshop, you will have the opportunity to do so and it’s free. The improv jazz workshop will be taking place on Dec. 6 at 1:30 pm. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn from one of the best jazz performers, Jackie King, himself.
Also, you don’t want to miss Waller perform with his old friend, King.
“I am looking forward to playing with Jackie, we’re old friends and I haven’t played with him in 25 years,” said Waller.
The UIW Jazz Ensemble is not feeling nervous about performing at the concert. They have an impressive resume of their own. In 2009 UIW’s Jazz Ensemble played at the Montreux Jazz Festival, in Switzerland.
All proceeds will benefit the UIW Fine Arts Renovation Campaign which is in the process of constructing a new fine arts building.
Tickets are available online or at the door. For more information or to buy tickets go to uiwjazz.com or uiw.edu.
