Los Angeles artist pays tribute to city with customized car.

By Amanda Lozano | 04 de enero de 2013

San Antonio.- Warner Brother’s newest movie “Gangster Squad” takes place in Los Angeles, 1949. The film revolves around ruthless, mob leader Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) who is running the show in town.  He is not only protected by his own thugs, but all the police force and politicians under his control.  It will take a small secret crew of LAPD outsider cops led by Sgt. O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling) to come together to stop Cohen for the sake of Los Angeles.  Under the direction of Ruben Fleischer, “Gangster Squad” is a modern retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

Warner Brothers Pictures has been touring the country promoting the film with early screenings, giveaway, and –a treat to the eyes. An exclusive 1939 Chevy Master Deluxe with hand painted airbrushed murals depicting images from the film has been showcased at the promotions. The car made its final stop here in San Antonio Texas. It was a cold rainy day in San Antonio’s Market square, but that didn’t stop crowds from gathering around to admire its beauty.

The car was customized and created by Los Angeles resident Mister Cartoon: an icon in the tattoo, graffiti and low-rider realm. Not only is he that, but a prominent businessman, collector and artist.  His love of vehicles and art inspired him to design the car.

“When the idea first came up to work with Warner Brothers on the movie “Gangster Squad”, it was perfect, cause of old Los Angeles: Paying homage to our city. That what was important to me,” Said Mr. Cartoon.

“We wanted to give a little more vibe and atmosphere to the setup we have made here. It’s combining the old with the new, it’s a delicate balance, but Mr. Cartoon has done a great job,” said Josh Grijalva, public relations for Warner Brothers.

“Gangster Squad hits the theatres January 11th.  For more information on the film, check out Warner Brothers Latino Facebook page Warner Bros. Cine – Latino or check them out on Instagram or Twitter for a chance to win prizes. Hashtag: #GangsterSquadSAT
