San Antonio.- San Antonio native, Christopher Mendoza, will propose to his girlfriend on national television Monday night during a segment called “Marry Me Monday,” that airs during ABC’s hit show “The Bachelor.” The lucky lady’s name and the love of Mendoza’s life is Cindy Chau.
Mendoza said that he wanted to do something special for his girlfriend and saw the opportunity with ABC’s “Marry Me Monday.”
“It is like a fairytale. Every woman wants their engagement to be special and what better way to make that happen than doing on national TV on the River Walk,” Mendoza said.
Thousands applied and auditioned last fall for the opportunity but in the end Mendoza was the lucky winner. He wrote a one-page essay explaining why Chau was the one for him and what made her so special, he also sent in pictures taken by local photographer Elie Young.
“She makes nice a better person. I left my city, my family and friends that I love in the pursuit of love of work and ended up falling in love with Cindy,” Mendoza recalls writing in his essay. “All my sacrifices were worthwhile when I met her.
Sometimes in life you meet an angel and they bless you for a lot of reason,” he said. “But, this angel is the one you want to hold onto…she just make me a happier person.”
In was a long process to get selected by ABC Mendoza explained but one he wasn’t going to give up on. The fact he is in a bi-racial relationship, specifically Mendoza being Hispanic, was something he wanted toshow the world.
“I wanted America to see us and our relationship,” Mendoza said. “Most of the time these are things you see two white people doing.”
In addition, Mendoza pushed to have the engagement happen right here in his hometown rather than larger markets L.A. or New York. He explained that he wanted to show people how great the city of San Antonio and events like this can be produced in the Alamo City.
Mendoza said he is nervous to pop the question to Chau but just as excited.
Tune into ABC from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday night to watch Mendoza and Chau’s big moment.
