The endeavor to mix Fashion’s Night Out with San Antonio’s own special brand of art is the brainchild of Michelle Robertson, whose goal was to bring the cutting edge San Antonio art scene into the fashion world.
The eight “Models and Mannequins: A Passion for Fashion” exhibition is described as the ultimate fashion soirée, which Robertson, the senior marketing manager for General Growth Properties which owns La Cantera and North Star Mall, bets the new exhibit will be the bridge to bring together San Antonio’s arts and fashion communities. The exhibit also addressed another yen of Robertson’s -- to unite the somewhat physically separate parts of the city – a way to make the urban-suburban connection.
“My idea was motivated by the concept of bringing art to an area of commerce, providing a fundraising opportunity for Blue Star and creating a new experience for our La Cantera shoppers,” she said.
“We were also trying to work with an organization on the other side of town and in a way, to unite downtown and uptown for a great cause, keeping the arts in education through Blue Star’s stellar program,” Robertson explained.
And stellar it is -- MOSAIC develops innovative programs to stir imaginations while connecting Blue Star to the community in fun, original ways. Blue Star’s MOSAIC program provides mentoring and art enrichment to youth, adults and elders in a safe and nurturing environment, striving to inspire creativity in all areas of the San Antonio community, especially where art education has been discontinued. The program also offers courses, public events and public art projects designed to increase cultural exchange and cohesiveness in the community by opening the art studio to the public and bringing art into the streets, focusing on collaborative exchanges and promoting visual literacy and expression in the community.
This community event – designed to reach consumers – is just another way The Shops at La Cantera works to create strategic partnerships and differentiate itself as an experiential shopping destination, while also making shopping fun again by creating traditions and great experiences that benefit the community.
“Every event we do is designed to add to the shopping experience and has a tie to the community - a way for The Shops at La Cantera and our shoppers to give back,” Robertson said.
All the mannequins will be on display Thursday Sept 8 at The Shops at La Cantera for everyone to view, including great live entertainment and more than 30 retailers offering special incentives to shop.
So go, shop, and enjoy. And remember, while you help stimulate the economy and you will also help raise SA's cultural bar.
